Are You Storytelling… or StorySelling? Here’s the Difference
And how to turn “SO relatable!” into “How do I pay you?”
It starts the same way it always does…
You open your laptop, heart full of fire, fingers hovering over the keyboard.
You know you have something important to say—something your people need to hear. You’ve lived it. You’ve healed it. You’ve helped others through it.
And yet… the cursor blinks. The words stall.
You wonder “How do I tell this story in a way that doesn’t just make people nod… but makes them move?”
Because let’s be honest… You’re not here to perform. You’re not here to play some algorithm game.
You’re here to be known. To be felt.
You don’t want to just build an audience. You want to build a home.
You don’t want to just tell stories. You want to create revolutions.
You don’t want to just be liked. You want to be trusted.
You want someone to read your words and say, “It’s like she wrote this for me.”
And it’s not like you haven’t tried all the things:
Shared your personal story hoping it builds trust.
Gave so much value you feel like you could have put it all in a book.
Got vulnerable, exposed the tender parts, waited for the magic to happen.
Posted consistently like you know you should, and prayed to the algorithm gods.
But something still isn’t clicking.
So now your sneaky mind whispers…
“I’m not a good storyteller.”
“My story’s too ordinary.”
“People don’t really care about this.”
And in this, you’re absolutely not alone.
The truth is: you don’t need to become a master writer.
You don’t need a memoir-worthy life story.
But what you do need is to understand the difference between Storytelling and StorySelling.
One inspires. The other activates.
One connects. The other converts.
One makes people feel.
The other makes people act.
Ready to see how? Let’s break it down 👇
Storytelling vs. StorySelling
Storytelling is powerful. It creates connection. It makes people feel like they know you. It helps them understand what you’ve been through or what you stand for.
But storytelling alone doesn’t move people to action. It doesn’t create buying decisions.
That’s where StorySelling comes in.
Let’s look at an example
Let’s say you’re a nervous system expert who helps people regulate anxiety through somatic work.
Storytelling post:
“There was a period in my life when I dreaded waking up.
Before my feet even hit the floor, my heart would already be pounding. My chest felt like it was wrapped in a rubber band, tight and unforgiving. I couldn’t catch a full breath no matter how hard I tried.
I’d drag myself through the morning, hyper-aware of every little thing—how loud the dishes were, whether my tone in that email sounded "off," how I must’ve already disappointed someone by 9am.
Anxiety wasn’t just something I had—it was the background music of my entire day.
I didn’t understand what was wrong with me. I looked fine on the outside. I was even “functioning.” But inside, my nervous system was stuck in overdrive.
It wasn’t until I discovered somatic work—orienting, resourcing, gentle breath repatterning—that things finally shifted.
It didn’t happen overnight, but piece by piece, I started feeling human again.
Now, I wake up feeling calm. I trust myself. I can breathe. I can rest.
And honestly, that feels like a miracle.
If you want to experience this too, DM me.”
Honest.
Vulnerable.
But let’s try adding a sprinkle of authority and activation…
StorySelling post:
“I used to wake up with a racing heart and a tight chest. Before my eyes even opened anxiety had already hijacked my day.
Then I found somatic tools that rewired my nervous system and gave me what I didn’t even know I needed: a felt sense of safety. Within weeks, I was sleeping through the night, waking up calm, and showing up in my business without the constant edge.
Since then, I’ve improved this process and guided 300+ clients through it. One went from daily panic attacks to hosting live workshops with confidence. Another finally launched her big new offer after months of freezing every time she tried.
You’re not broken, nor are you so unique that you can’t be healed. And you’re also not years away from living like you deserve to…
You’re wired for peace. You just haven’t learned the language of your body—yet.
This isn’t fluff. It’s nervous system work that ripples through every area of your life and elevates it.
I have 2 private spots opening in April. DM me “SAFE” if you’re ready to wake up feeling like you’ve got this. Because you do.”
See the difference?
One post shares the story. The other uses the story as a bridge to move the reader toward a solution, builds authority, instils self-belief, and has a CTA that reinforces the benefits + adds some exclusivity with the 2 spots opening.
That’s StorySelling baby!
It’s just a different lens through which you look at your life story and your work.
Once you practice it for 12 posts, you’ll start to get the hang of it (and your audience will start to respond).
